Roccat Suora FX

A colorful and simple mechanical gaming board.

This mechanical gaming keyboard might look familiar, and true, we did review its older brother back in August 2016. So what’s changed, apart from the ‘FX’ appendage in the name? Fans of the original will be pleased to know that Roccat has only added features to its second Suora-named keyboard. The keys themselves are pleasantly concave — except the spacebar, which is smoothly convex — and the frameless design of the full-sized ‘board means there’s no wasted material here.

It boasts the same aluminium alloy base as the original and, in Australia, it’s only available with Cherry Blue switches, which we found to be very clacky; they are loud, love them or hate them. Due to the nature of the floating key design, however, the newly added RGB lighting is quite bright and leaks out from under the keys, which may prove slightly distracting. With the original Suora, the lighting was limited to fluoro blue, but you’ve now been given the full rainbow to play with with. The F1–4 keys offer different effects, such as breathing, wave, solid and ripple, which are truly stunning to look at, though questionably useful in real-world situations.

The keyboard features 1,000Hz polling, N-key rollover, six macro keys, media controls and that ever-handy Game Mode button, which launches custom gaming profiles and disables the Windows key.

For a gamer who likes the minimalistic look and RGB, this keyboard can be found online for about $160, but at time of writing, no brick and mortar shops stocked it.
