G.SKILL RIPJAWS MX780 Gaming Mouse review

Offers a competitive feature set

Venturing into the gaming peripheral space, G.SKILL has just the one mouse and it’s a pretty decent one. Featuring an Avago Sensor illuminated by laser, you can scale the mouse from 100 DPI to 8200. And the micro-switches are rated for 20 million actuation which is roughly twice of what other popular brands offer.

The scroll wheel is completely open from the bottom which is great since it allows for easy cleaning and the rubber grip is smooth rolling. The positioning of the DPI switch is right where we like it and you can program the RGB LEDs to indicate which DPI profile is active.

The mouse is ambidextrous with swappable side skirts but the two side buttons near your pink finger are rendered cumbersome to actuate. The palm rest is screw adjustable so you can play around with it to get a comfortable grip. Since we are looking at customis-ability, you also get 2x 4.5g weights which sit between the mouse and the side skirt.

We did notice that the PTFE pads on the feet have a ten-dency to collect lint which if not cleaned regularly will eventually slip in between the pad’s adhesive side and cause it to peel off as was the case with the initial batch of Logitech G502. The main body of the mouse isn’t easily serviceable which is a downer but the palm rest is accessible.

Performance wise, you can hardly make out the difference between the MX780 and the G502 and the Speedlink KUDOS RS all of which were used at around 800 DPI. Overall, the features of the mouse are quite competitive.
